AGM Chairman's Report 4 June 2016 - Lettie Bardone

I want to thank the staff for all their hard work and dedication. Marietjie, Sheryl, Lesley, Fran, Sylvia, Thandi and our new staff member Maria is the drive force in this organization.

They keep this place in an excellent condition and the Health Dept. had no problem to issue us with a Health Certificate.
Sarah retired last year and we wished her everything of the best. Our sincerest condolences go to Lesley who lost his 94 year old mother last month.

The volunteers at B/W are the best. Thank you for your precious time but you knows it’s appreciated.

FUNDRAISERS DURING 2015:

The Ladies Tea in August was a very successful.
The Golf day was in Oct.
We sold Casual day stickers
We made no money at Spur because of a lack of interest.
We did apply for Lotto funds but no feedback yet.
We also applied for Government funding, their people visited the centre to see if everything was up to date but so far we heard nothing from them.

DONATIONS:

We received foodstuff from Woollies Meyersdal, Eden Park Supermarket and Amcare.
The Randhart Laerskool brought Easter eggs
Then youth of the Brackenhurst Baptist Church gave Christmas gifts
We received a meat voucher from the Brackenhurst Bowling club and Johannesburg Nomads. They had a joint fundraiser.
We received a donation from the N.G.Kerk Alberton Oos
One of the parents arranged two air cons for us.
Rina Mulder spends her 70th birthday at the centre and she asked her friends to donate R70- 00 to B/W instead of gifts. Somebody gave R777-70. We received nearly R4000

FUNCTIONS:

The food for the Spring day was sponsored by Nando’s.
The Christmas party was sponsored by Sha Mani at their venue.
We asked the parents to donate R10-00 a month towards the shoebox project for Christmas gifts. Not everybody participated so we could not do that but we used the extra money for craft paint.
The Valentines function was at the centre. Tiffany Barker and friend entertained the B/W with music and jokes
Broken Wings were invited by The Jenny Rahme’s Dance Academy for a show at the Barn Yard Theatre

EXPENSES;

We don’t receive any more veggies from the Lewenssentrum Kerk.
The bus must go for its roadworthy certificate twice a year. We had to buy two new tyres. The ball joints also had to be replaced.
We also pay more rent to the council for the house. Instead of yearly we must now pay monthly. These extra expenses put a big burden on our budget.
We are still looking for somebody to help us with our Website

FUNDRAISERS FOR THIS YEAR;

Please support our Ladies tea on the 3rd September. Du Preez Stoltz will be the entertainer.
The Golf day will be on the 20thOctober. Keep in mind that we also plan to sell Casual Day stickers.

COMMITTEE

I want to thank Maryn our Auditor for her hard work.
I want to thank the committee for their support during this year.
Trudy had a hard time to do all the paperwork for the Lotto, but we appreciate it.
Lorna resigned and we wish her well with her new career.
I decided to step down as Chairperson. I will still be available to serve on the committee for another year if I’m chosen. I just feel that we must have younger people with new ideas to take B/W forward.
The most important thanks go to our Lord. I know we would not have been able to get this far without him and with him this place will go forward for years to come.
One of our parents Stacey father is a living testimony of Gods greatness.

Maureen Ansett - 11/4/1944 to 02/11/2013

It is with a very heavy heart we bid farewell to a wonderful woman - Maureen Ansett. A tragic loss to Alberton, because of all she accomplished throughout the years. Her hardwork, dedication and passion for what she believed in, shows everywhere.

If it was not for this remarkable woman - our Centre would never had started, nor would it be where it is today. She had a great vision, and may we continue to make Broken Wings known by all in this town, and surrounding areas. Her wish, as well as ours, is to see it grow from strength to strength and cater for those who need it most.

She will be be loved and missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace.

Lorna-Ann Venter (Daughter and Vice Chairperson)
