Dear visitor – welcome!
Broken Wings is a nonprofit organization. We survive purely on donations and sponsorships of various kinds. 2009 was a huge challenge for us because of the recession. Earlier this year we were almost forced to close our doors, leaving the 35 disabled members to find alternative centres to go to due to the donations received, being far less than our running costs. This year however, we are remaining hopeful that things will be better!
Based in Raceview, Alberton we are in a central location. Should you know of, or have a family member of your own who is disabled in some way, please contact us or pay us a visit. Broken Wings is a Skills Development and Day Care Centre. We have volunteers who offer up their mornings to come and demonstrate and teach the Broken Wingers a craft. Whether it is beadwork, sewing, painting, card making or cooking - our Broken Wingers can do more now than they ever thought or knew they could. Some could barely thread a bead when they joined us, today they are making animals. To us, disability is not an obstacle but a challenge.
Our centre is a wonderful and humbling place to be. Each and every Broken Winger is a human being with a difference - just more loving!
Should you feel you would like to assist us in some way – either to volunteer your time to teach the Broken Wingers something, or if you would like to make a donation of some kind. Please speak to us; we would love to hear from you!
We hope you will enjoy browsing through our website and continue to return to hear about our latest news.
We are inviting you the public of Alberton to our 13th Annual General meeting as we enter our 14th year in existence without Government funding. Come along and be our guests for the morning and have lunch with us.
